******** Thai enabled HtDIG instructions ********

These are instructions to enable Thai language
support for HtDIG. Included is the Thai locale
installation file, th_TH-2.1.1.tar.gz. The locale
installation file was supplied by Theppitak Karoonboonyanan
at http://www.links.nectec.or.th/~thep/th-locale/
with the installation instructions modified by me for
better clarity. HtDig version 3.1.5 is the installed
version here, not sure if previous versions have locale
directive support.

1. Unzip the file (gzip -d th_TH-2.1.1.tar.gz)
2. Untar the file (tar -xvf th_TH-2.1.1.tar)
3. cd to the directory th_TH-2.1.1
4. Read the README file and follow the instructions
   to install Thai locale (TIS620).
5. Edit your htdig.conf file and add the following
   directive: locale: th_TH
6. Reindex your files: htdig -i -s -vv > htdig.log
7. Merge: htmerge -vv > htmerge.log
8. Check the top of the htdig.log file to verify
there is no error associated with the locale
   directive.

You should now be able to search in both Thai and
English. You can see an operational site that
uses this technique at www.ist.cmu.ac.th/riseat/

Of course you need a Thai enabled browser for it
to work, either Windows Thai edition or the
necessary Thai fonts installed on the Windows
English version.
